Gamification of UCISA Spotlight on digital capabilities (2)

game colours

As part of this year’s Spotlight on digital capabilities event we are revisiting the idea of gamifying the conference proceedings.  Last year’s game sure was fun, but this year’s game will be epic, and by epic we are quoting Jane McGonigal’s, 2011, notion of a game that exists on several different levels with large scale, real world goals.  The definition of Gamification, inspiring this year’s GameMakers was coined by Andrzej Marczewski, 2015, “the use of game design metaphors to create more game-like and engaging experiences” (p.11). Experience is key here, we aim to provide a conference wide game that:

  • augments the proceedings, without distracting;
  • allows participants to create, not only consume;
  • provides networking, not working;
  • and embodies the values and epic themes that UCISA is working on every day.

To get the full picture of the game you must play, and to play you must attend the Spotlight on digital capabilities (2) event.
If you think that the word epic is overused, how about flipping HUMONGOUS …not to mention “hard fun”, “people fun” and perhaps a smattering of “easy fun” (Lazarro, 2004).
