PACED25: Innovate, Integrate and Inspire

About the Event
Technology evolves at pace, challenging Institutions to keep up, and catch up as we continue to use legacy systems. Business models shift, driven by financial sustainability, research, and the student experience. Technologies like AI, quantum computing and net-zero technologies approach at an alarming rate, bringing challenges and opportunities. We must Innovate, Integrate and Inspire.
Project and Change Management is critical, as we explore new ways of working whilst still providing a high-quality user experience. We face the traditional challenges with strategic portfolio and programme management, but we must also explore/integrate newer ideas such as agile, responsible use of generative AI to augment product and project management and fostering a culture of change. Is your institution ready?
HE faces unprecedented financial challenges led by reduction in Government funding, international and domestic student numbers and increased competition for research funding. Technology, particularly AI, is seen as the saviour, with the perception that automating everything will save money, when this is not always the case. How are we innovating, integrating and inspiring during this financial turmoil?
Data is crucial for informed business decisions. AI's ability to uncover hidden or excessively shared data is a concern. The pressure on cybersecurity teams is intensifying, especially in the face of advancing AI tools on both sides, often straining under-resourced departments. Our sector must unite to safeguard against external threats. As a sector should we look at shared infosec services, as we tackle a sector-wide problem?
Change in HE systems requires precision and foresight due to the impact on operations and stakeholders. Upskilling is crucial to empower stakeholders to navigate new systems, reduce resistance and foster adaptability. Challenges such as resistance to change, insufficient resources, legacy systems and the complexity of integrating new technologies must be mitigated through strategic planning, ongoing support, and fostering an environment that embraces innovation and integration whilst inspiring our users to engage. How are your change teams working with your IT department to deliver these changes?
