Founded in 1992, ucisa is the member-led professional body for digital practitioners in education. ucisa is a registered not-for-profit charity. Open and inclusive, we work together to use our collective technical knowledge and digital expertise to help transform teaching, learning and research by supporting operational efficiency and an excellent student experience.
Almost all UK Higher Education institutions are ucisa members along with a growing number of Further Education and Sixth Form colleges.
We support our community by running a wide range of events and conferences backed up with surveys, reports and best practice toolkits and guides that help our members better meet the ever-increasing digital demands of twenty-first-century education in the UK.
We also work closely with technology and digital service suppliers to the sector – helping them better understand our needs so that they can deliver the solutions that members need.
Membership Services Development Manager (MSDM)
This is a full-time role. We are currently reviewing our work base, which will remain in the Oxford area. Although the successful candidate will be able to work from home they will be expected to travel to and work in Oxford to meet the needs of ucisa and the role.
In response to the emerging and changing needs of our members, are looking for a very experienced professional to lead the management of ucisa infrastructure and support systems and to lead the further development of ucisa membership services and systems to support membership services for ucisa the charity and ucisa services limited (USL) trading company.
You will contribute to the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of all aspects of ucisa’s business plan and strategic vision. You will manage and monitor all external relationships relating to infrastructure and systems and offer technical support, advocacy and advice needed to facilitate representation work on behalf of our members, including representation work with suppliers to the sector.
You must be educated to degree level or have equivalent experience and it is essential that you have a clear understanding of HE/FE sector including the culture and challenges affecting HE/FE institutions and the political and external factors that impact them.
You must have sound knowledge of IT services gained within a large, complex HE and or FE organisation and substantial experience of working within an ICT service or role within an SME.
You must also have excellent stakeholder management and negotiation skills, with the ability to explain complex technical issues in a clear, non-threatening, non-patronising manner to individuals with any level of technical skill and knowledge.
Experience of working with finance systems and software (e.g. Sage, SagePro50), web development including knowledge of CMS, web re-design and day to day management is highly desirable in addition to management of office collaboration systems, Microsoft licencing and systems, and understanding of CRM solutions and management of hardware and software solutions including management of ongoing maintenance and outsourced provision.
You must be able to travel for work purposes and must be prepared to work flexibly, including occasional ad-hoc additional hours at short-notice to meet the needs of our members and our representation work. You must therefore have excellent time-management skills, be adaptable and have a positive ‘can-do’ attitude.

Summary of Terms and Conditions
- Contract: Permanent full time
- Hours per week: 37.5, Monday-Friday
- Salary: £50,000-£55,000 per year (dependent on candidate experience and skill set).
- Leave: 30 days annual leave & 8 Bank Holidays
- Pension: Defined Contribution scheme (6.7% employer contribution, voluntary employee contribution 0-6.7%)
