16 December 2020 - Digital Transformation report

Dear Members

As we move closer to the end of 2020, we feel it is important to highlight the impressive work which has been undertaken by our sector in this, the most challenging of years.

We have partnered with Microsoft to compile a new whitepaper, The Digital Transformation of Higher Education, to understand the challenges faced by CIOs and Heads of IT this year, as they have adapted to the rapid, en-masse shift to remote learning.

Based on interviews with 14 of our members across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, this whitepaper explores the current state of digitalisation in higher education, the impact of the shift to digital classrooms, and the challenges and opportunities of hybrid learning.

As one participant notes, “What might have taken a university 6, 12, 18, even 24 months to introduce as a significant change programme, literally happened in less than 6 weeks”.

The whitepaper findings are testament to the work undertaken this year and provide insight into the new challenges lying ahead, including addressing digital inequality and building partnerships with suppliers which help meet the long-term needs of the higher education sector.
