Back to the Future of IT



The majority of undergraduate students who enrolled at the start of the 2018/19 academic were all born in the year 2000. When they leave University we will be into the 2020s.

We invite you to join us at the Queens Hotel in Leeds city centre for the 2019 UCISA Support Services Conference where we will be travelling Back to the Future of IT.

Looking proudly over City Square at the heart of the city centre and adjacent to the train station, this venue offers high quality luxury throughout its bedrooms, conference and meeting rooms and restaurants. This hotel is one of Leeds most famous landmarks. The imposing building has a striking Portland Stone façade and exudes 1930s glamour, with many restaurants, bars and shops just a stone's throw away.

The technological landscape within Higher Education continues to change at an increasingly fast pace. So too is the way that students and staff wish to use this technology, which in turn influences their expectations for the way it should supported.

  • What are the latest technological advances that will be popular in future of Higher Education?
  • Will traditional functions such as a telephone service desk and processes like ITIL, SLAs and KPIs still be relevant to customers who have grown up with Google, Facebook and Snapchat?
  • How do we continue to adapt our service offering and develop our teams to meet these new challenges?

We are putting together a programme packed with answers to these and other questions based on real-world experience. You will hear inspiring stories from sector role models and hard won advice from IT leaders in both HE and industry. There will be discussions on the use of technology and how this has brought benefits to customers and IT support functions. As well as the latest thinking from experts in the realms of technology, service management and beyond.

We've increased the opportunities to network with your peers, will be introducing greater levels of delegate led participation across the whole event and can promise some entertaining back to the future 80s themed evening activities to chill and reset for the next day.

The ‘Let the Delegates Participate’ section is back, giving everyone the opportunity to demonstrate the innovation and good practice being delivered across the sector. We are committed to getting the widest range of speakers in these slots and we would love to hear from you if you have a story to share to inspire your peers.

The conference will be of value to staff of all grades and experience involved in the delivery of IT support services. From managers balancing the requirements of their customers with their equipment budgets, through to support staff who are adapting to support their customer’s ever changing requests. There will be something to take away for everyone.
