The pandemic has taught us a lot of things about working from home, and it also highlighted another technology challenge that had gone under the radar, that of Digital poverty.
Without access to student computer rooms and the power of Janet many students and staff struggled to carry on as normal. This was made worse because security requirements meant certain requirement had to be met by hardware etc. Though known of the digital poverty gap had not really been addressed, and now it needs to be.
Though some aspects need governmental investment this session will consider what we can do to make access to our systems more affordable and effective in low band width situations or when low end hardware is all that is available for high end work.
