Award for Excellence 2010

Winner - University of Oxford

The 2010 Award for Excellence, sponsored by Eduserv, has been won by the University of Oxford. The submission focused on the development of mobile applications information services to the staff and students of the University as well as services for the general public in Oxford. The developed resources are available for any other higher and further education institution; a pilot deployment has already been installed for Oxford Brookes University.

The panel recognised that the development was not just targeted at Oxford's students but at the city as a whole and noted that the application was now in use in both the institutions in the city.

Highly commended

Of the other submissions, two were worthy of mention as being Highly Commended. The submission from Oxford Brookes University described the implementation of a placement management system. The panel recognised that the team at Oxford Brookes had developed a pragmatic solution to a problem faced by many institutions and that it could apply to a range of student placements.

The submission from the University of Nottingham described the implementation of an automated process to manage the identity and access requirements of all Associates of the University (such as visitors, consultants etc.). Again the panel recognised that this was a real issue for many institutions and noted the strong focus on governance of the solution.
