The annual UCISA Award for Excellence, sponsored by Eduserv, has been won this year by Sheffield Hallam University. Their submission focused on the development of a server virtualisation service. The service has delivered a number of benefits to the University including major financial savings and a reduced environmental footprint. The panel were extremely impressed with this submission which, they felt, was a “quantum leap in the way in which a university's information infrastructure might be provisioned”.
The panel were particularly impressed by the measured justification undertaken for this project and the sensitivity demonstrated to the needs of clients for prompt changes in systems configuration in a fast moving environment.
The entries from Leeds Metropolitan University and the London School of Economics were highly commended. All twelve entries are listed below:
