The theme of the 2011 Staff Development Group Best Practice Award theme was:

Embedding a Service Culture

The aim of the award was to identify approaches adopted within the everyday life of ICT teams to address the issue of embedding a service culture. Entries were sought that clearly demonstrated efforts that delivered innovative solutions praised by the institution's user community: staff, students and visitors.  The focus was on the service benefits that arose from a programme of staff development which has transformed aspects of your service.

The winner of the 2011 award was the University of Lincoln.

The sumbission from Lincoln highlighted a dramatic improvement in the feedback about their ICT and Estates service support desks which resulted from an intensive, three-month project.  The judging panel were particularly impressed with the high level of collaboration across departments, and the way in which staff of all grades had been encouraged to participate.
