Implementation models

There are a number of different approaches you might take to changing from one system to another. The main alternatives are:

  • 'Big Bang' approach;
  • parallel running;
  • phased implementation;
  • piloting.

The differences between these approaches are illustrated in the diagram below:

There is no single 'best' approach. The right model for your institution will depend on your own organisational structure and capabilities and the type of courses you run.
