About the Event

Many Universities now operate internationally. Staff travel globally for teaching, research, and collaboration, and many of us visit and work on international campuses. Students arrive in the UK from all over the world. This global footprint introduces complex policy and operational challenges for IT and InfoSec teams.

We must navigate varying legislative regimes, restricted internet access, and export controls. Data protection laws may prohibit taking sensitive data or devices into certain countries. Some research teams handle classified projects and face heightened risks when travelling to countries that are simultaneously key recruitment markets for the University.

This raises several questions:

  • Do you have processes in place to manage these risks? For example, pools of loan or burner laptops and phones for travellers?
  • Do your staff understand the risks involved? Are they briefed on data security, device compliance, and local restrictions?
  • Do you have an international campus—and lessons learned you can share?
  • How does your institution manage policy across global campuses? Are there frameworks that adapt to local laws while maintaining core security standards?
