Navigating Academic integrity in a GenAI World: tools, policies and practice

About the Event
Across the sector, there are many conversations taking place around the use of Generative AI (Gen AI) tools in assessment. Whilst the majority of UK universities have developed guidance around responsible use of AI and updated relevant policies (UCISA, 2025), many are struggling to deal with the rising numbers of cases of misuse of AI (The Guardian, 2025). A recent survey by HEPI reported that 88% of students have used GenAI in their assessments (HEPI, 2025), an increase from 53% in 2024, which highlights the scale and speed of change. In this webinar, we will explore how higher education institutions are responding to these challenges and consider how technology can support the integrity of assessments. Participants will hear case studies from Leeds Beckett University about the use of the Turnitin AI writing detection tool and from Queen Mary University of London on the Cadmus online assessment platform. There will be opportunities for participants to share what is happening in their own institutions in small groups and contribute useful resources and perspectives to a collaborative Padlet.
