UCISA Awards are intended to promote best practice and excellence. They range from the Award for Excellence, to group awards for more specific activity. In 2012, UCISA added the Amber Miro Memorial Award in memory of Amber Miro, who was Chair of UCISA's Support Services Group at the time of her death in March that year. The Award is intended to highlight the innovation that takes place within our institutions.
The Awards support one of the aims of UCISA which is to identify best practice in the use of IT and spread its use. In addition to sharing good practice, it is important that the success of a department in winning an award is recognised in that department's own institution. UCISA has implemented a number of measures to achieve this.
The 2016 Award for Excellence was won by the University of St Andrews for their IT apprentice scheme. The entry from the University of Sheffield was Highly Commended and the submissions from the Universities of Oxford and York were both Commended. Details of all the submissions are available in the Award for Excellence section of the website
