Blocked mail to ISP accountsA number of institutions have suffered problems as a result of internet service providers (ISPs) blocking or delaying mail from institutions to students or applicants with accounts on their services. One reason for ISPs blacklisting academic domains is that spam has been generated from such domains – the account details have typically be obtained by phishing attacks. There have been discussions with a number of ISPs regarding this matter. Also JANET (UK) have issued advice at www.ja.net/services/mail/email-to-rem-services.html which may be of interest. Microsoft have published adice on avoiding being tagged as spammers: http://www.ucisa.ac.uk/news/2009-06-09-blockedmail.aspx And specific help for universities to avoid being blocked by Hotmail and other Microsoft mail services: http://blogs.msdn.com/ukliveatedu/archive/2009/06/12/fighting-phish-and-eating-spam.aspx Published by on 24 June 2009 |
