Outsourcing of email and data storage

UCISA and JISC are producing a number of case studies and briefing papers to assist institutions considering outsourcing email and data storage services. These cases studies are available below:

Glasgow Caledonian University were the first university in the UK to outsource their student email, using the Windows Live service.

Leeds Metropolitan University and the University of Westminster have both outsourced services to Google.

The University of Oxford took the decision not to outsource.

The briefing papers were published on the JISC website on 12 December and announced in a press release on the same day.

It is hoped to build a set of resources to complement the case studies and briefing papers to assist institutions in evaluating and implementing outsourced email services.
