22 April 2009
Aston Business School, and online

This new programme employs blended learning, offering participants a comprehensive range of online resources accessible 24/7 along with dedicated online facilities such as a discussion forum and tutor-support (by email).

There are two residential sessions that will examine a range of core topics and offer delegates opportunities for networking. Finally all participants will undertake a work-based project that will demonstrate the impact of their learning in their workplace.

Successful delegates will spend around 10 hours in self-directed learning from the online resources, reflecting on their progress and working on their projects.

Topics covered include: business planning; service levels; quality issues; customer service; strategies and policies; action learning.

This course is aimed at technical staff in IT, libraries and other related services who are moving into management roles with responsibility for service management and who wish to develop further as managers or leading strategic service development. It provides an opportunity for staff to develop a range of skills related to management such as business planning, project management, service development and understanding strategic drivers. The types of roles who would benefit from this include managers of specific IT services (e.g. email, networks etc); user support service managers and library system managers.
