Case Studies

The Infrastructure Group is seeking to promote best practise amongst its members by publishing a case studies in the area of IT infrastructure.

The group is seeking examples of work that you are willing to share with others in areas including, but not limited to:

• Server, storage, desktop, and application virtualisation
• Desktop management, particularly Vista deployment
• Asset management, including software licensing and compliance
• High Performance Computing Technologies, including cluster computing and grid
• System monitoring and management tools, including SNMP processing and reporting systems
• Service resilience and disaster recovery
• Authentication and authorisation systems
• UK Access Federation/Shibboleth
• OpenAthens

August 2011

Loughborough University document how they offered an expanded and improved service for their students at a reduced cost with their Google Apps offering. This provided student email culminating with the launch of a groundbreaking new Google service for Loughborough Alumni. Following on from this work, IT Services at Loughborough University was a Finalist in the Times Higher Leadership and Management Awards 2011 "Outstanding ICT Initiative" category.
