Points based immigration system Seminar (am)

21 May 2009
Universities UK, London

The Home Office introduced a new points based immigration system (PBS) in 2008, initially for skilled and temporary workers (Tiers 2 and 5). The implementation of the system for students (Tier 4) is already underway with the second phase, application of Tier 4 policy rules, starting on 1 April.

The system will be fully implemented by February 2010. Universities UK, UCISA and a number of other bodies have been in discussion with the UK Border Authority (UKBA) to review the processes surrounding international student applications and to ensure that data can be exchanged between the Sponsor Management System and institutional student records systems.

This seminar is aimed at those responsible for corporate information systems and those responsible for international student admissions.

The seminar has three aims:

  • To outline the processes surrounding international student applications and monitoring and data exchange between the SMS and student records systems.
  • To answer any questions relating to the processes etc.
  • To produce a FAQ section on the UCISA website to provide further information. (This has been drafted by UCISA and we are awaiting feedback and answers to outstanding questions from the UKBA).

Representatives from UKBA will be leading the seminar.

Presentations from the seminar are available here.

This event will be repeated in the afternoon, please see the pm seminar if you would prefer to attend that session.
