Support for work based learning (Seminar Room 13)

Changing modes of attendance for study are providing new challenges for the IT department. Work Based Learning is the most extreme of these. Students learn mainly at work and are supported there by mentors who belong to their company, not the University. The presentation will explore the issues of induction, training and support for both students and their mentors.

Second Life in higher education Seminar Room 4A

Anglia Ruskin University has been using Second Life since 2006. After a brief introduction we will share what we have learned about its strengths and weaknesses for higher education and present examples of its use in our courses. Key issues include hosting SL, managing an Island Estate, student induction and support.

New start? − GlamStart! − simulation game for new students at the University of Glamorgan.

The University of Glamorgan has, over the last 3 years, developed a range of web based interactive simulations for teaching and learning. GlamStart and GlamStartLite have been developed to assist applicant and enrolled students in the process of induction. The presentation will demonstrate the projects, describe the development process, and present evaluation results.
