Pre conference sessions

A number of UCISA's corporate members will be presenting pre conference sessions on Wednesday morning.

Blackboard (Room 14)

Bb 24/7

Blackboard’s e-learning solutions have developed into truly mission critical applications, being crucial components in the mediation of learning experiences.

One of the key challenges facing education today is how to best to support and manage these systems 24/7 x 365, to meet the needs and expectations of today’s students and academics who increasingly expect access around the clock and around the globe.

Join Blackboard on Wednesday 11th March (10am to 1pm) at Blackboard’s Bb 24/7 Workshop to learn how Blackboard’s Managed Hosting and Presidium solutions can address these challenges.

Cisco Systems (Room 4a)

Reduce your carbon commitment

Cisco has lined up a compelling agenda on tools to reduce your institution’s carbon footprint at this year’s UCISA Annual Conference.

Attend the pre-conference workshop to find out:

  • Practical solutions to help your organisation meet the Government’s Carbon Reduction Commitment targets
  • Examples of green Higher & Further Education best practice
  • How to realise cost savings whilst delivering on the green agenda

We will provide an overview of EnergyWise to enable you to control the power consumption and cost of your network; as well as how a travel reduction strategy can be implemented via the use of real life TelePresence conferencing; and Cisco’s own experience of improving power efficiency through a virtualised data centre. We’ll also be running hands on demonstrations.

Register for this session via the Cisco website.

JISC (Room 4b)

Aiding institutional agility through flexible service delivery

This workshop will introduce a forthcoming JISC Programme, setting it in the context of last year’s study by the JISC into Shared Services for corporate information systems. The programme will have a substantial element of sector involvement: the workshop will invite discussion of the nature of this involvement and of the programme as a whole.
