Peter Tinson, Executive Secretary of UCISA commented, “There is a considerable amount of good work taking place in universities and colleges to reduce power consumption and institutions’ carbon footprints. The strength of the shortlist highlights the excellence that exists in the sector.”

Rob Bristow, JISC's Programme Manager for Green ICT said, “I am delighted to see this strong field on the shortlist for Green Gowns Awards in 2010. Along with our co-sponsors, UCISA, JISC sees awards like this that reward innovation and that recognise the hard work needed to implement change, as helpful in getting across our messages about Green ICT.”

The awards are run by the Environmental Association for Universities and Colleges (EAUC) with a steering group of different agencies.

The Green ICT category showcases initiatives with potential to cut energy consumption, carbon emissions, waste and other environmental impacts associated with ICT use, or are developing hardware and/or software with environmental benefits.
