Access Management

29 November 2006
Aston Business School, Birmingham

With the increasing trend towards student mobility and 24 by 7 working, access to online research and learning resources has become mission critical for universities and colleges. Institutions face some difficult choices over the next eighteen months as they consider their options for access and identity management. The JISC have announced the UK Access Management Federation for UK higher (HE) and further (FE) education institutions but joining the Federation might not be appropriate for all institutions. Some institutions may prefer to utilise Gateways which will allow users of Athens services and members of a Shibboleth federation to interoperate effectively.

This Forum is intended to help ICT service directors and managers to identify the most appropriate solution for their institutions. The forum includes presentations on both the Access Management Federation and Gateways as well as guidance on building the business case for your chosen option. The forum will include details of JISC's Access Management strategy and will close with a number of case studies from the some of the institutions who were early adopters of the technology.
